he relationship between sports watches and the world of motorsports is an old as well as strong one. Throughout history, watches have been constantly representing some form of motorsport or the other. There have been plenty of watch brands that have tried this and failed. There is literally a whole plethora of watch brands that have crashed and burned in the attempts to make it in the world of motorsports by either sponsorships or taking up shares in sports teams, etc etc.

That being said, there are brands that haven done the exact opposite. One such brand is TAG Heuer. One thing that is absolutely clear is that simply partnering with a sports team or a racing company does not earn you cred. That does not guarantee success or ensure profits right off the bat. In the end, it is all about quality and substance, and by the looks of it, TAG Heuer happens to have both.

So, when TAG Heuer introduces yet another masterpiece, it is automatically a big deal in the watchmaking and automotive worlds, especially when it partners with the star German car manufacturer.

The Swiss watchmaker is teaming up with Porsche for multiple initiatives and of course, a limited edition chronograph. The watch is 44 mm wide and will be available in a red/black/white colour theme. This theme matches Porsche Motorsports’ own colour theme. The black coloured Porsche ceramic bezel, the grey dial that is asphalt-textured, the Arabic numerals with luminescence, and finally, the sporty and chic steel bracelet or stitched leather strap is just drool-worthy.

A Dynamic Duo

There is something about partnerships that excite us and make us fascinated. Batman and Robin, Bert and Ernie, Bonie and Clyde, you name it. TAG Heuer and Porsche is one partnership that has the same effect. Teaming up the two brands just feels so natural.

TAG Heuer launched its popular Carrera watch in the 1960s. Similarly, Porsche released its iconic 911 in 1963. It was originally named the 901 but it was later changed to 911. When the sports car revolution began with names such as Ford, Ferrari, and of course, Porsche, Jack Heuer was there to witness it. Jack Heuer was so smitten with the theatrics and the showmanship that he envisioned putting his brand at the pinnacle of global motorsports.

By 1970, the world had already seen the dashing Steve McQueen get behind the wheel of a 917 Porsche whilst wearing a Heuer Monaco. When TAG took over Heuer, and the watch brand came to be known as TAG Heuer, things only got more serious. The then CEO of TAG Heuer was credit with the creation of the monumental McLaren F1 and its unprecedented domination at the Le Mans race.

So yes, when I say that the partnership between Porsche and TAG Heuer makes sense, I mean it.

Getting Into The Details

The newly launched TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is essentially being made available in two models. The Ref. CBN2A1F.FC6492 which is the strap model and the Ref. CBN2A1F.BA0643 which is the bracelet model.

As mentioned above, the watch is 44 m wide and comes in a stainless body. The fixated black ceramic bezel is truly an eye-catcher. The grey asphalt texture dial really resonates with the whole motorsports theme. The indexes are applied and the watch comes Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility. As far as water resistance is concerned, the watch is safe till 100 meters in the water.

The Movement

The mechanism used inside the new TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph gets a segment for itself because thatâ€™s how important movements are. The watch is powered by the Heuer 01 Automatic movement. It offers hours, minutes, a sub-seconds dial, a date display window, a 12-hour chronograph with central seconds. Pretty amazing, right? Thereâ€™s a lot more. With a power reserve of about 80 hours, the automatic movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour.

In conclusion, the watch is as fantastic as the hype behind it. It is both functionally superior as well as aesthetically enticing, and in my opinion, that is a great combination for â€˜anyâ€™ watch in the market. Ciao!
