This TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart timepiece was released as a limited edition of only 250 numbered pieces globally and was a massive hit, selling out almost instantly. It's obvious why. There are a lot of very questionable collaborations in watchmaking, but this one works on every level.
TAG Heuer is the brand with an unbeatable association with motorsports (yes, even more so than Rolex and its Daytona!) and Mario Kart is the most legendary and fun racing game to ever hit the market. Generations have grown up on it (including us), and countless hours have been spent racing around the circuits filled with treacherous and infuriating obstacles, but we love it nonetheless.
The resulting timepiece ticks all the boxes. It looks the part with its black, white and red racing colours, coupled with chronograph function and rotating ceramic tachymetre bezel. The one-minute tourbillon elevates it to the next level of haute horology and provides endless amusement to the wearer as Mario, Bullet Bill and Spikey Shell race around the dial in pursuit of each other. The movement is visible through the sapphire caseback, and the automatic bi-directional rotor is engraved with Mario, Luigi and Peach. The watch is fitted on a black leather strap which has a Koopa Shell pattern and matching red stitching.
